A Record-breaking Season for Leo and Looking Ahead to Edensong

It has been a wonderful season of music and community for the Queen City Balladeers this season. We’ve seen record attendance, with 50-80 in attendance regularly and over 120 folks coming out one week, quality performances, including a lot of first-time performers and young “open-mickers”, two very enjoyable “Special Concerts” and a membership base that continues to grow steadily, with nearly 200 active members in the database.

So, we’d like to thank you all for making it happen. it’s getting harder and harder to find true connections to people and honest community in this crazy world of ours and we should all be proud of our achievement in creating something very special. if you’ve attended one show or every show, if you’ve stacked one chair or one hundred chairs, if you’ve become a new or renewing member, helped make coffee, brought treats to share or shared your musical talent, run sound or run mic cords, the qcb board would like to thank you. a special thanks to our gracious hosts at zion united church of christ for giving us a comfortable home.

As we continue to grow so does our need for an active volunteer base. Please consider signing up to make coffee, help at special events or become a board member. We currently have a special need for a Volunteer Coordinator as our volunteer base grows. It’s a great way to give back and be involved in something bigger than ourselves. Music really does make the world a better place and we sure make a lot of it at the Leo Coffeehouse.

And our season’s not over. May promises more great Sunday nights at the Leo Coffeehouse, our season-ending Hootenanny and pot-luck and involvement in the Appalachian Festival. And the summer brings another Edensong Concert Series to Seasongood Pavilion in Eden Park. Edensong is a much anticipated annual event and we’re happy to announce this year’s line up:

Edensong selection is always a difficult process. A lot needs to be considered. This is the QCB’s one big opportunity each year to reach a large audience at a well-publicized free event. The bar is set pretty high so that folks attending Edensong for the first time get a great first experience with the organization. That good experience translates into increased interest in the Leo Coffeehouse, membership growth, and therefore, the continuation of this historic organization, The Queen City Balladeers. So, the selection committee takes into account the following when voting on a line-up for Edensong.

    Purpose of Edensong:
    1. Publicize the QCB to the city of Greater Cincinnati.
    2. Provide opportunity for the QCB to extend community outreach.
    3. Further the QCB’s mission to preserve and present folk and acoustic music in the city.

Factors for consideration in selection process:
    1. Quality – must continue to be of high caliber in order to grow the club. This criterion is the most important, keeping in mind the most diverse representation possible.
    2. Diversity – to allow for a wide variety of acts/styles of folk and roots music.
    3. Name recognition – an important factor for at least 2-3 of the acts each week of the series, allowing for a few “newcomer” slots.
    4. Availability.
    5. Volunteerism – includes past performance at Leo Coffeehouse.

We are excited to be presenting six new acts this year at Edensong (at least one each week), some up-and-coming local talent, regional and national performers and some old favorites too. It’s a strong line-up. Let’s hope for beautiful weather each week and we hope see you there!

Again, thanks for all you have done to make this a very, very successful season for the Leo Coffeehouse and the Queen City Balladeers.
